Phi Theta Kappa Kicks Off Spring Membership Enrollment

Fri, Mar 8th, 2013

Eligible students will soon receive their official membership invitation to Phi Theta Kappa via their permanent home address (Beta Lambda Nu eligible students should receive their invitation in class after break.) Membership acceptance is also available via e-mail.

Phi Theta Kappa is the student-driven honor society of the two-year colleges, with over 2.2 million members - making it the largest student organization (two or four year) and largest Greek organization in the world. The mission is two fold:

  1. Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and;
  2. Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.
Hocking College student dues are a one-time lifetime fee of $80. A 3.5 cumulative GPA is required to join with 12 credit hours earned at Hocking College. A student must maintain a 3.25 thereafter.

If you joined your campus's chapter prior to 2013, it is a great time to become actively involved in your chapter as we are experiencing a great period of chapter revitalization! All our campus chapters now have the opportunity to achieve a five star rating, which means all chapters are working towards excellence in opportunities to provide our Phi Theta Kappans with scholarship support, research opportunities, leadership development, service-learning experiences and fellowship.

At Hocking College, now "We Are ONE" Phi Theta Kappa, with three distinct chapter identities:
  • Alpha Mu Delta Chapter of main campus meets Thursdays at 5:30pm in Oakley 301 (Social Science Pace Lab)
  • Beta Lambda Nu Chapter of Perry Campus meets Wednesdays at 10:00am in the Perry Commons
  • Beta Sigma Omega Chapter of Logan Campus meets some Fridays (March 15, 22, April 12 and 26) in the HCEI Conference Room
A new advising team exists at Hocking College:
  • Julie Cohara, former advisor of our main campus chapter, has returned as an advisor and is now serving all three campus chapters as the contact advisor. You can reach her at coharaj@hocking.edu.
  • Alpha Mu Delta: Co-Advisors Michael Whittemore and Jennifer Yanity with advising support from Kerry Hagerty and Amy Roe
  • Beta Lambda Nu: Co-Advisors Brenda Hoops and Melissa Woodrum with advising support from Christine Woodgeard
  • Beta Sigma Omega: Co-Advisor Sarah Baldwin with advising support from James Baker
