As the only two-year college in Ohio to offer college-owned residence halls, Hocking College is excited to offer you a unique experience. Although living on campus is not required, many students take advantage of this educational and fun opportunity. By becoming part of our living learning communities, your academic experience will be enhanced by the support services available and the convenience of being on campus to take advantage of the multitude of resources available.

Living-Learning Communities

One of the best reasons for living on campus is the opportunity to take advantage of being part of the living-learning communities. Students are arranged in each residence hall by area of study, encouraging the formation of friendships with others in their classes. In addition, a Resident Success Mentor (RSM) takes an active role in arranging study sessions for those residents as well as hosting other educational or social programs in the residence halls.

An RSM is a student employee who oversees a portion of the residence hall and is responsible for ensuring a safe, educational environment for students to live while they are on campus. They "look out" for the students in their residence hall by providing fun activities, inviting guest speakers in to share educational information to the residents, enforcing policies, serving as a referral agent to campus resources, and just being there to listen when a student has a problem. They are the eyes and the ears of the college - reporting student concerns in a broad sense and also connecting individual students to professional staff who have more advanced skills to help them be successful. They are friends to all students living in the residence hall, offering support and guidance at all times.
