The recent Breast Cancer Lunch and Learn brought in more than two dozens students, faculty and staff to educate them on the risk factors and symptoms of breast cancer.

The event was sponsored by the Hocking College School of Allied Health in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and featured speaker and certified nurse practitioner Melanie Moynan-Smith. Moynan-Smith stressed the importance of monthly self-breast examinations to detect early signs of cancer. After her speech, participants were able to visit displays to practice what they had learned.

"We want to help students understand and be aware," said Dean of the School of Allied Health, Bonnie Allen Smith. Allen Smith hopes that the Breast Cancer Lunch and Learn becomes the first in a series of events pertaining to various health issues throughout the year.

The event was featured an article in the Athens Messenger.
