2015-16 FAFSA is now available. Have you applied?

The first step in the financial aid process is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The FAFSA will help determine your eligibility for all forms of financial assistance, including loans and even certain scholarships. Because there are priority deadlines for scholarships and campus-based awards (like SEOG and FWS), you should complete your FAFSA as soon as possible. The priority deadline for Hocking College scholarship and campus-based funds is March 1st. You may still have eligibility for other types of aid so it is important to complete the FAFSA as early as possible.

When you complete the FAFSA, you will need to enter our school code: 007598. If you are required to file federal income tax returns, it is recommended that you do so prior to completing the FAFSA. When you complete the FAFSA, you will have the option to use the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) which enables your IRS tax information to populate directly into the FAFSA. This is a quick and easy tool implemented for your convenience in completing the FAFSA.

For instructions on how to complete the FAFSA, please watch this brief tutorial:

How to Fill Out the FAFSA

What Happens Next?

After you have successfully completed the FAFSA, the federal student aid processor will e-mail your confirmation of your FAFSA submission. About a week after completing the FAFSA, the federal student aid processor will email you a Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR outlines the information you entered on your FAFSA. You should review for accuracy. The SAR will also indicate if our FAFSA is selected for the verification process. If your application is selected for verification, federal regulations require the school to obtain additional information to confirm your eligibility for student aid. The Office of Financial Aid Services will send you a letter requesting specific information.

After completing the FASFA, you will receive a Financial Aid Award letter from Hocking regarding your eligibility for financial aid. This letter will include:

  • Type(s) of award(s) student will receive;
  • Amount(s) available per term; and,
  • Terms and conditions student agrees to meet while receiving aid.

The Office of Financial Aid Services begins sending Award Letters to students in early April and continues to mail them weekly, as necessary. Read the letter thoroughly and respond to any requests immediately.

If you need additional help completing the FASFA, please contact one of our experienced financial aid associates for assistance.
