Fitness Management Program Description
The Fitness Management program provides students with the exercise science knowledge and Business Skills needed to work in Quality health and fitness facilities, industry related sales, or develop their own fitness related business ventures.
You will develop a professional portfolio of skills and resources needed to thrive in the industry while developing competencies needed to succeed as a fitness specialist.
Your experience and confidence grow as you and your classmates plan and execute hands-on campus and community activities through our HawkFit program. Our program provides the opportunities to connect with individuals of varying abilities and interests and learn about the role of fitness throughout varying life phases and conditions.
To further your employability, you will be able to sit for the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Certified Personal Trainer exam. This highly respected certification along with our 200-hour internship in the fitness industry location of your choosing will propel your career forward and show future employers and clients that you are a trusted partner in their health and fitness goals.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are statements of what a student will be able to do when they have completed a program. They represent the knowledge and skills a program has determined are most important for students to gain from that program and include both the Success Skills (institutional outcomes) and Program Outcomes. SLOs are specific and measurable so the program can accurately assess the degree to which students have achieved each outcome, and they align with college and institution mission and values. Data on the achievement of SLOs is used to make improvements in the program and increase student success.

Program Learning Outcomes
The following student learning outcomes, knowledge, skills, and attitudes are cultivated in students seeking the Associate of Applied Science in Fitness Management:
- Creates a portfolio of in-demand skills required in the fitness and recreation industry.
- Demonstrates the ability to obtain complete fitness assessments that include the following: body composition, flexibility, cardiorespiratory and muscular strength and endurance.
- Designs safe, appropriate and effective exercise programs that incorporates the five components of fitness (cardiorespiratory, flexibility, body composition, and muscular strength and endurance) while adhering to proper prescription guidelines (frequency, intensity, type, time) that are based on the client’s fitness level, goals and special considerations.
- Describes the benefits, limitations, and anatomical and physiological responses to flexibility and designs appropriate warm-up and developmental plans using active, passive, dynamic Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretches for all body parts.
- Research business and management principles required for a successful modern fitness facility and recommends appropriate customer safety, satisfaction and retention measures.
- Identifies the coronary heart disease risk factors (both threshold and mechanistic classifications) and provides strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease.

- All registered fall/autumn students with registration status for the following fall/autumn.
- Excludes special populations - College Credit Plus, Non Degree, Online Military and University Center.
Potential for upcoming fall/autumn excludes graduates from that fall/autumn, spring and summer terms.

Graduation Rates
Graduation rates are determined by the office of Institutional Research. To ensure appropriate time for data collection, this report will be run and posted annually in the last week of September for the previous academic year. It should be noted that annual graduation rates may change as students continue to graduate. The following criteria will be utilized for the calculation of graduation rates:

All students with the program in their history of programs of study - For the purposes of reporting, the program completion rates are aggregated by academic year of entry.
- A student is considered to have completed or graduated from a program or certificate by virtue of having been awarded the degree or certificate.
- A student is considered to be undertaking activity in a program of study for the duration of time that they are in an active status in a program or certificate. This is defined by having a Program of Study with a status of ‘A’ during the duration of time they are taking coursework. Should a student move in and out of active status in a program of study while continuing to take coursework, we only take into account the student’s activity while the program has an active status for that particular program of study.

Licensure and Certification
The Fitness Management program concludes by taking the National Strength and Conditioning Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT) exam to enable you with the credentials to succeed in the fitness industry. Additionally, your final semester is a capstone 200-hour, off campus, internship at a fitness industry business tailored to your goals and desired career path allowing you to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the real-world setting.
In Addition to taking the NSCA-CPT certification exam integrated into the curriculum, graduates of the Fitness Management program are also eligible to take the following national certification exams:
