Associate of Applied Business in Office Administration

Skilled Office Assistants are an integral part of today's business environment and opportunities for advancement are better than ever.

The Office Administration degree program provides an opportunity for you to achieve superior administrative office skills needed to meet the ever-changing demands of the office environment. This office management training program encompasses the integration of 21st Century workforce skills by emphasizing communication, information management and administrative procedures vital for success in today's business office.

Students in the Office Administration program will obtain abilities and skills that apply to numerous areas of the administrative office. Some of these skills include extensive computer training in numerous software packages, QuickBooks, records management, human resources, sales, marketing, customer service, administration and management.

As part of the Office Administration degree program, students have the opportunity to enhance career and professional development by integrating both classroom study and work experience by completing an office practicum in a professional office setting. Many students have gained full-time employment at their practicum site following graduation. 

Hocking College serves as an Ohio Business College to thousands of students from all parts of Ohio and other areas of the US. The Office Administration program is Nationally Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).


WHAT IS Virtual/Online, Hybrid, and Traditional Learning?

Virtual-Online Learning
Virtual-Online learning courses are taught completely online in a virtual classroom setting. A virtual learning environment (VLE) is a set of teaching and learning tools designed to enhance a student's learning experience by including computers and the Internet in the learning process. The virtual classroom is set up to accommodate you by using the latest software and applications to enhance your learning experience. Virtual learning can take place at the convenience of your home, a library, on campus, a café, or anywhere that you can connect to the Internet.

Hybrid Learning

Hybrid learning courses replace some traditional classroom meetings with online components. Hybrid courses may have as few as two or three on-campus meetings; others may meet on a regular scheduled basis. You can expect 50%-95% of your coursework to take place online. Your Instructor will have day and evening hours set to be available to work with you on campus if needed. The Instructor will also have virtual hours that they are available online to assist you. On-Campus meetings will include: Test preparation, study groups, tutoring, projects, advising, etc.

Traditional Learning

Traditional courses are offered on-campus at our Main Campus or one of our Branch Campuses and have specific meeting days and times.

The following outcomes are skills, behaviors, and attitudes cultivated in students seeking the Associate of Applied Business in Office Administration:

  • Manages records, budgets, and finances for the fiscal operations of a business or organization.
  • Creates and modifies professional documents and media for internal and external office publication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, research, and present office projects.
  • Utilizes knowledge of appropriate technologies/software packages (Microsoft Office, Google Applications, Quickbooks, Social Media, etc.) to perform administrative office tasks.
  • Demonstrates effective management of relationships with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders in an office setting.

As a graduate of the Office Administration program, you will have a broad base of skills which allow you to work in many office settings including corporate offices, small businesses, schools, hospitals, government offices, legal offices and medical offices. This program will prepare you for a career as an office manager, administrative assistant, word processor, records management assistant, data entry specialist and virtual assistant.
