Dream Job: Hocking College Inspires Educational Career
Jen (Carr) Fulwider has a passion for teaching that she credits to her time at Hocking College. Fulwider graduated in 1997 from the Hocking College Interpretation Services program. Originally from Toledo, Fulwider found Hocking College to be a fit and decided to attend even though it was four hours away from home.
After graduating from Hocking, she continued her education to finish her Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Education at the University of Toledo. Upon graduation, Fulwider decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher and went on to complete her Master's Degree in Special Education.
"I am now a Special Education teacher," Fulwider said, "I've been in my dream job for 10 years now!"
A strong educational foundation at Hocking gave Fulwider her start. "I credit my love of education to my two years at Hocking and to the best instructors!" Fulwider commented. "While teaching at my day job and at the collegiate level, I aspire to give my students the honest truth about the field of education and the real world, just as those angels did for me at Hocking."
She is currently working on her Education Specialist Degree, teaching part time at a university and working on her Ph.D.
"I can't say enough (about) how much my experiences at Hocking changed me, challenged me, and inspired me to truly go after my dreams," Fulwider said. "While I may not be in the Natural Resources field, those two years at Hocking College were the best times of my younger life!"
