Hocking College will host "We Are STEM" (science, technology, engineering and math) on Friday, November 18, 2011.  "We Are STEM" is a one-day program offered to ninth-grade girls from area high schools designed to promote STEM careers.

Hocking College, one of the original participating schools, is in its fifth year of offering the program. "We Are STEM" is funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Education. Each November on a given date, participating colleges throughout Ohio take part in this popular event.

Faculty, staff and community volunteers work together to impact and influence the students in a positive manner and setting. Students also have the opportunity to meet and interact with female mentors from area businesses and engage in hands-on activities with faculty and staff.

All participants will receive backpacks, t-shirts, flash drives and other prizes. Registration and refreshments will be available from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. in the Student Center with an introduction and welcome by Sue Chiki, Associate Provost, and Dr. Ron Erickson, President. The remainder of the day will consist of STEM activities with an hour break for lunch. The event will conclude at 1:30 p.m. in the student center.
