The American Culinary Federation's (ACF) Columbus Chapter recently awarded Kathryn McGushin the ROAR award. ACF explains that the recipient of the ROAR award is defined by their ability to show outstanding service leadership, volunteerism, loyalty and a dedication to the chapter.  

Chef McGushin is a culinary arts faculty member at Hocking College.

McGushin's recognition was specific to her work with the Knowledge Bowl team over the past three years and her work as an educator. The Knowledge Bowl is an ACF competition resembling jeopardy where participants are quizzed on culinary terms, history, classical methods of cooking, science of ingredients and ingredient identification.

In 2013 and 2014, Chef McGushin led Hocking College's Knowledge Bowl team to second place out of nine teams in the regional finals. Hocking's team won second place two years in a row and was the only school from Ohio in the competition.

"The American Culinary Federation sets the standards for our profession, so to receive such a great award recognizing my efforts with our culinary students here at Hocking, we affirming that we truly are one of the best culinary schools in the state/region," McGushin said.
