The Hocking College Art Gallery recently announced the winners of the first High School Mixed-Media Exhibition.

The exhibition was designed to give high schools around the state of Ohio a venue to showcase young talent and as an opportunity for young artists to further their education with Hocking College.

Artwork from Bloom-Carroll, Canal Winchester, Circleville, Licking Heights, Newark and New Lexington high schools is featured in the exhibition. Juror Patty Mitchell, co-founder and co-director of Honey for the Heart, chose the award winners. The winners will each be awarded a $500 scholarship to be applied to their first semester at Hocking College.

The Award for Exceptional Representation of 2D Scholarship goes to Shawn Savage of New Lexington High School. The Award for Exceptional Representation of 3D Scholarship goes to Angel Shaw of Circleville High School. The Award for Exceptional Representation of Mixed Media goes to Ariel Swartz of New Lexington High School. In addition, Mitchell said she "had to create an honorable mention, because one piece deserved it" and the honorable mention goes to Brandi Beard of New Lexington High School.

The exhibit runs through April 18 at the gallery, located at 30 Public Square in Nelsonville, Ohio. Gallery hours are 1 - 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
