The Hocking College Art Gallery presents the first High School Mixed-Media Exhibition. This exhibit will run from March 27 - April 18 with the opening reception being held during Final Friday on Friday, March 27 from 5-9 p.m. During Final Friday on the last Friday of every month, the Nelsonville Historic Square galleries and retail shops stay open late to feature local events.

After the Final Friday opening, gallery hours are 1 - 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (closed Easter Sunday).

To give high schools around the state of Ohio a venue to showcase their young talent and an opportunity to further their education with Hocking College, the gallery is opening its doors to show their mixed-media work.

A juror will select three candidates from this group which best represents the categories of 2D, 3D and Mixed Media. The winners will each be awarded a $500.00 scholarship to be applied to their first semester at Hocking College. Award winners will be announced at 7 p.m. during the opening reception. Light beverages and hors-d'oeuvre will be served.

"We wanted to give high school students an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional setting," said Brian Alloway, Hocking College's Glass Program Director. "There are some really talented young artists out there, and that is evident through the artwork being selected by their instructors. I remember when I was in high school the number one problem I found when it came to gaining experience through exhibiting was a lack of availability. It is my hope that Hocking College can change that for years to come."

Artwork will be featured from Bloom-Carroll, Canal Winchester, Circleville, Licking Heights, Newark and New Lexington high schools.
